The role of a Commis Chef is an excellent entry point into a professional kitchen brigade. As a Commis Chef, you will support the Chef de Partie (line chef) in various culinary tasks and kitchen operations, ensuring a smooth and efficient workflow. This role is vital for maintaining kitchen hygiene, managing inventory, and assisting in meal preparation.
Responsibilities could include
✔️Support Chef de Partie:
Assist the Chef de Partie with food preparation for their specific sections.
Prepare salads, sauces, and other components as required.
✔️Kitchen Operations:
Properly receive and store deliveries, ensuring all items are correctly logged and stored.
Maintain food freshness by ensuring all items are in date and proper stock rotation is followed.
Keep kitchen stations clean, organized, and ready for service.
✔️Food Preparation and Presentation:
Follow precise food specifications to assist in meal preparation.
Plate and present dishes according to the Chef de Partie's instructions, ensuring high standards of presentation and consistency.
✔️Inventory Management:
Regularly take inventory of kitchen supplies.
Notify senior chefs when supplies need to be ordered.
✔️Quality Control:
Discard any spoilt or expired food items to maintain food safety standards.
