The main job of a kitchen porter is to help the venue they work in be as clean and organised as possible. This enables chefs and line cooks to focus on creating the best dishes for guests instead of worrying about kitchen cleanliness.
A kitchen porter is an entry-level restaurant job that gives many their start in the hospitality industry. It is a crucial part of every kitchen to help the kitchen runs smoothly.
Responsibilities could include:
✔️ Keeping the kitchen and Back of House Areas clean, tidy and organised before, during and after trading, to ensure food service can run smoothly and areas remain in line with Health regulations
✔️ Arrive to work in clean, correct uniform for every shift
✔️Clean and sanitize cookware, dishes, utensils, work surfaces and kitchen equipment throughout the entirety of the kitchen
✔️ Sweep and mop the kitchen as you go, always keeping the area tidy and clean
✔️ Empty bins and remove rubbish following all company and legal procedures
✔️ Receive deliveries, unpack them, and place them in the appropriate location whilst following all Food Health & Safety procedures. Report any damaged, low quality or missing items to your line manager
✔️ Maintaining ingredient inventory and organisation in all refrigerators, freezers, and storage areas whilst following all Food Health & Safety procedures
✔️ Assist chefs by preparing ingredients where trained and required to do so
✔️ Rotate fresh, ambient and dry stock to ensure there is a reduction in wastage
✔️ Follow any other reasonable requests by management
